Superfoods: Olive Oil and Spinach

Last day of 3rd quarter.

Olive Oil, especially Extra Virgin Olive Oil is highly paid attentions because Greeks -who use it plentifully- really less likely to have heart diseases.

A research reported at Denmark in 2006, which Olive Oil prevents cancer, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, and constipation.

Spinach contains plenty Vitamin A, C, iron and calcium.

Therefore Spinach provides moisture for skin.

Spotlight on Chocolate


This is the 100th post of this year ヾ(@^▽^@)ノ

This post focus on one of the Superfoods, "Chocolate".

Because I love Chocolate ヘ(゚∀゚*)ノヽ(*゚∀゚)ノ
What is this for?(゚_。)?(。_゚)?

"Enemy of losing weight but healthy for your heart"

A research group in University of Cambridge reported that, "lower the risk of heart diseases by eating a moderate amount of Chocolate periodically".

The Dr. Oscar Franco's group analyzed the occurrence of cardiovascular disease involving 114,009 adults, ages 25 to 93.

People who ate most Chocolate were 37% less likely to have developed cardiovascular disease and 29% less likely to have had a stroke than were those who ate the least amount of Chocolate.

On the other hand, Chocolate consumption had no effect on the occurrence of heart failure.

However, Dr. Franco warns, "The result must not be an excuse for overeating of Chocolate".

Most of Chocolate contain plenty sugar and fat.

Overtaking of those induce the risk of gaining weight, oppression of heart, and diabetes.

If you eat Chocolate moderately and periodically, contained polyphenol = antioxidant increases amount of nitrogen oxide that lowers the blood pressure.

"Eat a little every day to prevent High Blood Pressure"

Is it strange?

No, Dark Chocolate is one of the Superfoods.

Dark Chocolate has a hypotensive effect.

Milk Chocolate and White Chocolate are not Superfoods, because contained milk suppresses the effect of polyphenol.

As I have introduced sometimes in this blog, which polyphenol is an excellent anti-oxidant.

However, you cannot eat too much of course.

Too much is too much.

Intake 100g (3.5oz)/day is good amount.

Today, Tea is paid attention to use for health.

Tea lowers blood pressure, prevents heart diseases and cancer.

Some researchers compared the habitual Tea drinkers of Chinese American and the habitual Coffee drinkers of Caucasian.

In the results, the number of the Tea drinkers suffered by coronary artery disease was only 2/3 of the Coffee drinkers.

And suffered by brain artery disease was only 1/3.

And it is maybe important for you.

Tea has 0 Calorie itself.

Acupuncture Insurance Billing

I attended a continuing education class.

I think I have mentioned before in this blog sometime.

We, Licensed Acupuncturists are required to attend to 50 hours of certified continuing education classes in every 2 years to maintain our licenses.

Contents are various, which history of Oriental Medicine, classic and modern Acupuncture, Acupuncture for beauty, western medicine, how to treat such kinds of diseases, and so on.

The class I attended this time was about "Billing Insurance".

I started to learn Acupuncture in 1987, and started to poke people 1991 in Japan.

Yes, in Japan.

Almost 100% of people have the national insurance in over there, which similar as president Obama wants to do in U.S. (I guess).

Of course the people pay every month about $100 or little bit more as health insurance holders in this country do.

The insurance cover 70% for most of situations,

but Acupuncture (१▽१*)

I have heard the insurance started covering acupuncture practices in some situations recently, but when I was there.... NO!

So "Billing Insurance" is my weakest category in Acupuncture business.

Strangely, United States is advanced to Japan for acceptance of Oriental Medicine.

I am doing my best.

I am studying about it all the time.

I proud of my acupuncture practices, but I am sorry for the inconvenience if my "Billing Insurance" will not be well. m(__)m

*(Almost 100% of billing mistake can be fixed by re-billing)

Superfoods: Tomato and Pumpkin

I mentioned a lot about Tomato in "Smart Diet Combinations".
So many information will be overlapped.

Red pigment of Tomato = Lycopene is an anti-oxidant that is 100 times stronger than Vitamin E.

Lycopene prevents aging and hardening of skin by sunlight.

Therefore Lycopene is used into "Tomato essence (facial) pack" and face lotion.

Lycopene prevents accumulation of fat.

Grilled Tomato is more effective to burn fat than fresh Tomato.

"Plenty Vitamins to Anti-Aging"

In general, people do not really pay attentions to Pumpkin in healthy foods.

However Pumpkin is one of the "Superfoods" too.

Pumpkin is low calorie and has plenty fiber.

Pumpkin contains also magnesium, β-carotene, Vitamin C & E.

Vitamin E is called, "Vitamin of Anti-Aging", which prevents stain, spot and wrinkle.

Here it is a suggestion for in case you want to have Tomato and Pumpkin together.

Superfoods: Broccoli & Garlic

Thank you for reading everyone!

I could post only one food yesterday,

because my online class started 6am and last practice was done at 11pm.

So I was sooo sleepy ZZzz...(_ _ *) (I know the English about that: EXCUSE (´Д`。)).

but I did my best for my valuable readers.


There is 2 Superfoods today.

The first Superfood is,

"Reduce tumor size"

The researchers in Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland) announced that, "Broccoli not only prevents enlarging tumor but also reducing" in 1992.

Therefore Broccoli became one of most sold vegetables in U.S. today.

And Broccoli has only 30 Calories/cup.

The second food of today is,

"Good for Cardiovascular Disease & Metabolic Syndrome"

Garlic is good for recovery from fatigue, and cardiovascular disease.

The researches compared the people who took Garlic everyday and have not taken.

The results; the blood pressures in the "took Garlic" group were lowered.

The neutral fat (triglyceride) and cholesterol were lowered too.

Therefore Garlic is recommended for preventing metabolic syndrome.

Superfoods: Onion

I introduce only one Superfood today.

It is,


"Eat flesh make blood thinner"

Allyl sulfide the pungent component of onion suppresses coagulation of blood, which means make blood thinner.

That prevents arteriosclerosis and stroke.

However you cannot forget that allyl sulfide is activated only when you eat it as flesh slice or minced.

You should be careful that allyl sulfide whould leak out from onion if you soak into water long time

Sliced onion with dried bonito and raw chicken egg.

It looks very good, but I don't recommend you eat raw chicken egg in L.A.

Oil Change in 20 min.

I went to Oil Change for my Xterra.

The garage is located nearby where I live.

The owner mechanic is Miki Matsuoka.

He says, he would rather play with car than eat.

I arrived there just on time at my appointment.

There was the another client was leaving the garage.

He started oil change for my Xterra on time.
And he finished just in 20 min. w( ̄△ ̄;)w

I used to bring my car to dealer.

They spent half of a day for just oil change.

Miki spent only 20 min for oil change, but he spent 5 min for just print a receipt. (´Д`。)

He maybe car crazy.

He is not too nice, but of course not rude either.

He does not talk almost anything other than about car.

Oh! It is that how Samurai work.

Yes, please tell me if I am talking too much about other than acupuncture. ヘ(゚∀゚*)ノヽ(*゚∀゚)ノ

How to Prevent Getting FAT even if you Eat at Late Night

You better not eat after 9 p.m.

However you have to eat al late night by some reasons some times.

You know that easy to ge fat if you eat late night,


there is some strategies to prevent to get fat even if you eat at late night.

1. Do not eat much in next morning after you ate late night.

You oftern do not feel hungry much in the morning after you ate late night. Do not eat much that time. The foods you ate whtn you are not hungry, easy to go to be FAT.

2. Rice is better than pasta or bread.

Rice is easy to be absorbed when it is compared to pasta or bread.
Wheat cools your body, which slower the metabolism.
Rice does not increase blood sugar as much as wheat does. (blood sugar up ☞ insulin chanes sugar to FAT)

3. Take warm soup.

When warm soup warmed up your internal organs, the digestion is accelerated.
Fat is hard to be burned in low temperature body. Keep warm your body.

4. Take chicken egg, red meat or fish at least twice a day.

Egg, meat and fish accelerate metabolism.

5. Take fermented foods.

I think most of people know that fermented foods help the digestion and the absorption.

6. Take beans.

Beans contain plenty protein, fiber and mineral. Those help the metabolism.
Furthermore beans effect to control female hormone.

A lot of people are misunderstanding that salad is very healthy.

No-no. ( ̄× ̄)b゙NG!!

Not very.

Salad is hard to be digested, which slower the organs work.
And most of time salad is cold, which slower the metabolism ☞ FAT stay in your body.
Often you feel "took a log of nutrition" after you ater salad, but salad's appearance is much more than actual volume.
Dressing possible to have very high calorie. I have heard the salad with dressing in McDonald's has much high calorie as Big Mac.

And vegan is not healthy.
How many vegans do you know older than average life span?
I still remember the biochemistry class in my master's course, "Animal protein is essential nutrition for human being, which nothing can be substitution" was an answer of the exam.

Generally, I eat one meal a day around 10 p.m. to midnight.

I eat steamed rice, tofu, and fish in most of time.

Umm... 「(ーヘー;)

That was the point of I am skinny although I am not trying to be. (१▽१*)

Steamed rice, scallion, seaweeks, fish with coarse tea (green tea is O.K. too)
It made me hungry now...

Superfoods: Orange and Pomegranate

"Improve Swelling, Prevent Constipation"

Vitamin C that is contained in Orange promotes producing collagen and prevents wrinkles, stains and spots.

Furthermore Orange contains potassium that improves swelling and fiber that prevents constipation.

Lately β-cryptoxanthin has been paid attentions.

β-cryptoxanthin is the pigment of the Orange color.

β-cryptoxanthin may have effect as cancer inhibitor.

"Contained polyphenol is 2 times more than red wine"

A while ago, people talked, "Pomegranate contains estrogen that prevent gynecologic diseases".

However it is not proved scientifically, yet.

Pomegranate contains plenty Vitamin C, polyphenol and Vitamin B6.

Pomegranate contains polyphenol that 2 to 3 times more than red wine, which means more powerful to anti-aging.
I miss the days that with my cousins, brother and sister ate Pomegranates in uncle's farm when I was little.

In legends, Yang GuiFei and Cleopatra loved Pomegranate.
I don't know it is true or not. 「(゚ペ)

Superfoods: Avocado and Kiwi Fruit

Today, September 16th is Alvert von Szent-Gyorgyi's 118th birthday.

He found Vitamin C and received Noble prize in 1937.

So big oranges on the google home page, but orange will be in the next post.

I mention about Avocado and Kiwi Fruit today.

"Recommended to pregnant women"

As I mentioned in past post in "Smart diet combinations", Avocado is called "batter of forest".

Avocado is high calorie, but it contains plenty folic acid too.

Pregnant women are recommended to take folic acid abundantly.

Avocado prevents anemia, arteriosclerosis and dementia.

Avocado contains plenty fiber as Apple does.
I don't think I have eaten Avocado in Japan 「(゚ペ)

Kiwi Fruit
"Best Vitamin C Container"

As you know Kiwi Fruit is famous New Zealand's fruit.

Kiwi Fruit is highest Vitamin C container in weight in all foods.

Vitamin C is good for beauty skin, anti-oxidant, increases immune system and prevent anemia.

In uncooked or unprocessed fruits, Kiwi Fruit is highest fiber container too.

Lack of dietary fiber induces diabetes, arteriosclerosis, and colon cancer. That is why; Kiwi Fruit is called Super Fruit.

Superfoods: Apple and Blueberry

New series "Superfoods".

First food is

"Eat with peel for anti-aging"

Apple contains plenty phlyphenol, flavonioid, and vitamin C. These elements are good for anti-oxidant = anti-aging.
Apple also contains fiber that cleans up your stomach and intestines.
The fiber in an apple is 30% of daily requirement. However an apple has only 47 Calories in 100g (3.5oz).
Eating peel is recommended. Anti-oxidant elements in peel are 2 to 6 times more than in flesh.
Many researches report, "Apple prevents heart disease" too.
We may better eat at least an apple a day.

It is known as Madonna and Victoria Beckham are taking those for maintaining beauty.

Superfoods contain plenty various nutrition and most of them are low calories.

Also it is wonderful source of the essential nutrition (these are needed to your body but human body cannot create these).

I got a house call the other day.

There was TV shooting in a residential house in Pacific Palisades.

That was a nice summer day.

I set the practice table at the back yard.

Oh~ Yeah!!!

People were so nice.

Foods were delicious (yap I had some BBQ (゚д゚)).

Patient has been hurting but still nice.

I think he was an actor I do not have TV though.

Because I think I have seen him in a billboard on the street.

I worked in a good mood.
