Black Swan for Your Body Shape

Mary Helen Bowers released interesting DVDs.

Who is Mary Helen Bowers?

She was the coach for Natalie Portman in the movie Black Swan.

What is the DVD?

Ballet for making good body shape.

Sounds good (*^ー゚)b

Running, swimming, spinning (bike), sports...

a lot of things are good for making good body shape or losing weight in healthy way, but ballet has some extra benefits.

You may look at yourself by big mirror during ballet.

So you can see your change in body shape and your posture all the time.

Observing your body-shape-change stimulates your motivation.

And observing your posture prevents injury.

Just do not forget warming up and stretching.

And apply ice if you got acute pain in muscle or joints.

(15 min on your limbs, 30 min on your trunk)

Remember, you do not gain weight if you consume calories more than intake.
However, muscle is heavier than fat so "weight" itself may not have big change.

I guess you are still happy with your current weight with Natalie Portman's body shape. (≡^∇^≡)

This is good idea

I like "Ballet for losing weight"
way more than pole dance or taking tabs.

Parisiennes Love a Branch Toothbrush

What do you use to brush your teeth?
Oral B?
Colgate?

Haven't you felt African people (in Africa) have really white teeth?

Neem
It is in fashion in the women who are beauty experts in Paris.
In Africa, a little branch of Neem is used instead of plastic toothbrush.
The branch is about 5mm in diameter and about 10cm in length.

This branch looks like a pencil at first.
You should chew it again and again persistently.
The fiber at end of branch become untied little by little, and then it will be brush.
You can now brush your teeth and massage your gum.

At beginning, you do not like its sweet sour taste and hard brush touch.
However, you will feel immediately how it works.

Neem has natural whitening effect.
And you do not need toothpaste anymore.

The Neem for toothbrush is sold on the street in all over the place in Africa.
So people do not need to prepare it, but they can get anytime.

Do you want to try it to get white teeth?

Huh?

Don't you wanna chew it to make brush?
Do you rather go to dentist and get laser whitening in Beverly Hills?

I know.

You don't like making any effort, right.

That is good too.

Your laziness helps this recession little bit. Ψ(`∀´)Ψ

By the way,
 where can I get Neem?(゚_。)?

Using Neem with this paste maybe more powerful?

Taking Vitamin E Increases the Risk of Prostate Cancer

A research team in Cleveland Clinic reported to Journal of the American Medical Association, which "Men who took a high daily dose of vitamin E had a 17% greater risk of developing prostate cancer".

Data from previous studies suggested that taking vitamin E might help protect men against prostate cancer, so Dr. Minasian and her colleagues at the NCI (National Cancer Institute) decided to take a closer look at the connection between the two.
Beginning in 2001, they started the Select trial, studying more than 35,000 men age 55 and older in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
They divided the men into four groups, each with different kinds of daily diet supplements: vitamin E, selenium, both vitamin E and selenium, or a placebo pill.

"We expected that the numbers of prostate cancer would be smaller in men taking vitamin E, but we found larger numbers instead," Minasian said.

After 7 years, the researchers detected more prostate cancer in men taking one or both of the supplements, but the men taking vitamin E showed the most significant increase in their rates of prostate cancer.
And the numbers of prostate cancer diagnoses kept climbing after the men stopped taking the vitamins.
Of the 8,737 men taking vitamin E, 620 of them got prostate cancer, compared to 529 of the 8,896 men taking a placebo - a 17% increased risk for men taking the supplement.

Food supplement pills are easy to take, but man made stuff often have negative factor too.

I think I have mentioned about overtaking Vitamin C in past post.

If you overtook Vitamin C by food, your body urinate out them.

In general, human been cannot overtake Vitamin C unless you take supplement tubs.

Overtaking of Vitamin C induces diarrhea, ulcer in stomach, kidney failure, urolith and oxalosis.

So you better take vitamins by natural foods.

Korean Pregnant Women Rush to C-section at 111111

Many Korean women are planning to give birth their children at November 11th 2011 by C-section, which make their children's birthday as 111111.

Korean people have a 13 digit resident registration number respectively in Korea.
The first 6 numbers are date of birth.

So many mothers want to get the number started 111111....... for their children.
The appointments of delivery are 20% more than average.

Some mothers have an expected date around November 20th.

Nowadays, C-section is not dangerous as much as before.
However, you have to do C-section for 2nd, 3rd children if you did for first child.
Which means the mothers' bodies are no longer natural condition.

I can not recommend that unless in case of necessary.
20% more children will be born is meaning many classmates of the kids' may have same birthday.

Weight Loss by Acupuncture or Superfoods 4!

Superfoods for Weight Loss #4 -=≡Σ(((⊃゚∀゚)つ

Sardines with
Chicken Caesar Salad

16. Sardines
These tiny fish are the unsung stars of the sea. They are high in protein and loaded with Omega-3s, which also help the body maintain muscle, And they are low in mercury and high in calcium, making them a smart fish pick for pregnant women. If the flavor does not appeal to you, soak them in milk for an hour, it will remove any trace of fishiness.
Eat more
Use sardines in recipes you like that call for anchovies ,including Caesar salad and stuffing. Or make a sardine melt: Toss whole sardines with chopped onions, fresh herbs and diced bell peppers. Put the mixture on top of a slice of pumpernickel or rye bread, cover with a slice of cheddar and broil.

Tarragon Chicken Salad with Yogurt
 17. Tarragon
You can use this herb, a staple in French cooking, in place of salt in marinades and salad dressings. Plus, Tarragon lends a sweet, licorice like flavor to bland foods.
Eat more
Rub 2 tbsp dried Tarragon on salt with chicken before baking or grilling. Or make a tasty dip by mixing 1 tsp chopped fresh Tarragon into 4 oz low fat plain yogurt and 1 tsp Dijon mustard.

Parmesan Apple with Bacon
 18. Parmesan
Drop that rubbery low fat cheese and pick up the real stuff. Women who had one serving of whole milk or cheese daily were less likely to gain weight over time, a study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds.
Eat more
Grate Parmesan over roasted vegetables. Or snack on a 1 ounce portion with an apple or a pear. (oh yeah! I posted cheese reduces acidity of the apple that damages your teeth, few post ago).

Edamame Avocado Sandwich
 19. Avocado (of course (^0^))
Do not let the fat content of an avocado (29 grams) scare you - that is what makes it a top weight loss food. The heart-healthy monounsaturated fat it contains increases satiety. And it is terrific summer party food.
Eat more
Add avocado to your sandwich instead of mayo for a creamy texture and a shot of flavor. Avocados do contain a lot of calories, so it is best to watch your portions. One easy way to do it: Try Wholly Guacamole's 100 calorie fresh guacamole packs ($3; grocery stores or WhollyGuac.com). They are easy to pack in your lunch and pair with chopped vegetables.

Spaghetti with olive oil, basil & garlic
 20. Olive oil (Yes, of course (^0^))
Like avocados, olive oil has healthy fat that increases satiety, taming your appetite. But that is hardly its only slimming feature. Research shows it has anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic inflammation in the body is linked to metabolic syndrome.
Eat more
Drizzle your salad with olive oil and you will increase the antioxidant power of your veggies, a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition notes. Or toss pasta with a few teaspoons of olive oil fresh basil and sauteed garlic. Add this oil to your summer menus for a flatter tummy by fall.

Almond Butter & Yogurt,
nuked Apple & Cinnamon
11. Almond Butter
Adding this spread may lower bread's glycemic index (a measure of a food's effect on blood sugar). A study from the University of Toronto found that people who ate almonds with white bread did not experience the same blood sugar surges as those who ate only the slice.
Eat more
Try it for a change from peanut butter in sandwiches, or make a veggie dip: Mix 1 tbsp Almond Butter with 2 tbsp fat-free plain yogurt. Or add a dollop to oatmeal for flavor and protein.

Pomegranate Spinuch Salad
12. Pomegranates
The juice gets all the hype for being healthy, but pomegranate seeds deserve their own spotlight. In addition to being loaded with folate and disease-fighting antioxidants, they are low in calories and high in fiber, so they satisfy your sweet tooth without blowing your diet.
Eat more
Pop the raw seeds on their own (many grocery stores sell them preshucked) as a snack at your desk. Use them in salads instead of nuts. They are especially delicious on raw baby spinach with lemon-poppy seed dressing.

Spaghetti with
Thyme-Chile Celeriac Puree
13. Chiles
One reason to spice up your meals: You'll crank up your metabolism. A compound in chiles called capsaicin has a thermogenic effect, meaning it causes the body to burn extra calories for 20 minutes after you eat the chiles.
Eat more
Stuff chiles with cooked quinoa and marinara sauce, then roast them. To mellow a chile's heat, grill it until it's almost black, peel off charred skin and puree the flesh. Add the puree to pasta sauces for a one-alarm kick. Or stir red pepper flakes into any dish you enjoy.

Crispy Yogurt Chicken
14. Yogurt
Dietitians often refer to plain yogurt as the perfect food, and for good reason: With its trifecta of carbs, protein and fat, it can stave off hunger by keeping blood sugar levels steady.
Eat more
Use low fat plain yogurt instead of mayonnaise in chicken or potato salad, or top a baked potato with a bit of yogurt and a squeeze of lemon juice. You will save 4.7 grams of fat per tablespoon. Look for Greek yogurt, which has more protein than other versions.
?(゚_。)?(。_゚)? Poteto is not really good for weight reduction, which I wrote before...

Quinoa Cinnamon Raisins Walnuts
15. Quinoa
Curbing hunger is as easy as piling your plate with this whole grain. It packs both fiber (2.6 grams per 1/2 cup) and protein, a stellar nutrient combo that can keep you satisfied for hours.
Eat more
Serve quinoa instead of rice with stir-fries, or try Krieger's take on a scrumptious hot breakfast: Cook 1/2 cup quinoa in 2/3 cup water and 1/3 cup orange juice for 15 minutes. Top with 1 tbsp each of raisins and chopped walnuts.

I did not know about Quinoa until I wrote this blog.

Eat more
Mix1/4 cup of the dried berries (from health food stores) with 1/4 cup raisins and 1/4 cup walnuts for a nourishing trail mix. Or for dessert, pour 1/4 cup boiling water into a bowl with 2 tbsp dried berries; let sit 10 minutes. Drain, then spoon over 1/2 cup low fat vanilla frozen yogurt.

Char-Broiled Salmon
7. Wild Salmon
(I have already mentioned about this sometimes)
Not only do fish fats keep your heart healthy, but they shrink your waist, too. Omega-3 fatty acids improve insulin sensitivity-which helps build muscle and decrease belly fat. And the more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns. Ops for wild salmon; it may contain fewer pollutants.
Eat more
You don't need to do much to enhance salmon's taste. Simple is best. Season a fillet with salt and pepper, then cook it in a hot pan with 2 tsp oil for 1 to 3 minutes on each side.

Apple with brown sugar,
cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice cloves,
salt and lemon peel
8. Apples
(I wrote it is not good for your teeth in 2 posts ago ψ(`∇´)ψ)
An apple a day can keep weight gain at bay. People who chomped an apple before a pasta meal ate fewer calories overall than those who had a different snack. Plus, the antioxidants in apples may help prevent metabolic syndrome, a condition marked by excess belly fat or an "Apple Shape".
Eat more
Apples are the ideal on-the-go low-calorie snack. For a pie like treat, chop up a medium apple and sprinkle with 1/2 tsp allspice and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Pop in the microwave for 1 1/2 minutes.

Buckwheat crepes
9. Buckwheat pasta
Swap plain noodles for this hearty variety; you'll slip into your skinny jeans in no time. Buckwheat is high in fiber and, unlike most carbs, contains protein. Those two nutrients make it very satiating, so it is harder to overeat Buckwheat past than the regular stuff.
Eat more
Cook this pasta as you do rice: Simmer it, covered, over low heat. For a light meal, toss cooked Buckwheat past with broccoli, carrots, mushrooms ans onions, Or make Buckwheat crepes.
The shells of Buckwheat are used for the Sobakawa pillow that I have mentioned sometime.

Blueberries with cereal
10. Blueberries
All berries are good for you, but those with a blue hue are among the best of the bunch. They have the highest antioxidant level of all commonly consumed fruit. They also deliver 3.6 grams of fiber per cup.
Eat more
Instead of topping your cereal with fruit, fill your bowl with blueberries, then sprinkle cereal on top and add milk or yogurt.

It is still half way of this series.

It actually became popular topic in last year.

20 Superfoods for Weight Loss! -=≡Σ(((⊃゚∀゚)つ

I list 5 of those today!

Beef Fajita
1. Steak
Beef has a rep as a diet buster, but eating it may help you peel off pounds. Try to consume local organic beef; it's healthier for you and the environment.
Eat more
Grill or broil a 4-once serving of top round or sirloin; slice thinly to top a salad, or mix with veggies for fajitas.

Frittata
 2. Eggs
Dig in to eggs, yolks and all: They won't harm your heart, but they can help you trim inches.
Eat more
Omelets and scrambles are obvious choices, but if you can't cook before work, bake a frittata on Sunday; chill it and nuke slices for up to a week.

Kale and Quinoa
3. Kale
Long sidelined as a lowly garnish, this green belongs center stage on your plate. One raw chopped cup contains 34 calories and about 1.3 grams of fiber, as well as a hearty helping of iron and calcium.
Eat more
Mix chopped raw kale into cooked black beans. Or slice kale into thin strips, sauté it with vegetable broth and top with orange slices. Make it a meal by tossing the mix with quinoa.

Oats-Meatloaf
 4. Oats
All oats are healthful, but the steel-cut and rolled varieties (which are minimally processed) have up to 5 grams of fiber per serving, making them the most filling choice. Instant oats contain 3 to 4 grams per serving.
Eat more
"Instead of using breadcrumbs, add oats to meat loaf-about 1 cup for a recipe that serves eight".

Lentils pasta sauce on Spaghetti
 5. Lentils
Lentils are a bona fide belly flattener. Eating them helps prevent insulin spikes that cause your body to create excess fat, especially in the abdominal area.
Eat more
There are many varieties of lentils, but red and yellow cook fastest (in about 15 to 20 minutes). Add cooked lentils to pasta sauce for a heartier dish. "Their mild flavor blends right in, and because they are high in protein, you can skip meat altogether".

By the way,

I weighed today first time in several months since my old scale was broken.

I lost 3.5 lbs.

Of course NOT on purpose.

An Apple is Worse than Soda

When you think healthy diet, I guess these things come to your mind:

low carbo, low calorie, high protein, no soda, eat fruits....

However, an apple that I introduced in Superfoods post, maybe more problem than soda.

An apple is worse for your teeth than a fizzy drink

Eating apples can be up to 4 times more damaging to teeth than carbonated drinks, according to new research.

Wine and lager also increase the risk dental damage but pickled onions and grapefruit, which are consumed less frequently, do not.

"It is not only about what we eat, but how we eat it," says Professor David Bartlett, head of prosthodontics at King's College London Dental Institute, who led the study.
The King of Apples: Fuji
Danger: The high acidity levels of apples can damage your teeth

"Doctors quite rightly say that eating apples is good, but if you eat them slowly the high acidity levels can damage your teeth. The drinks most often associated with dietary erosion, particularly cola, showed no increased risk.

The results emphasise that dietary advice should be targeted at strong acids rather than some of the commonly consumed soft drinks".

In the new study, the researchers looked for links between tooth wear at several sites in the mouth, and diet in more than 1,000 men and women aged 18 to 30.

They looked for damage to the 2mm surface enamel of their teeth, and at the dentine, the main supporting structure of the tooth beneath the enamel, and compared it with diet.
Smiles better: Grapefruits are less damaging to teeth

People who ate apples were 3.7 times more likely to have dentine damage, while carbonated drink consumers had no additional risk.

Fruit juice increased the likelihood of damage to the enamel around the to of the teeth near the gums fourfold.

Some apples contain as much as 4 teaspoons of sugar which contributes to raised acid levels in the mouth.

Dr. Glenys Jones, nutritionist at the Medical Research Council's Human Nutrition Research unit, says: "Fruit can be acidic and obviously does have a sugar content but I would not want anyone to be discouraged from consuming fruit and fruit juices".

One suggestion is to eat your apple with milk or a piece of cheese as both contain calcium, which neutralises acid. Drinking water immediately after eating an apple will also help, washing away harmful effects.

Dr. Jones adds: "Drinking fruit juice and smoothies with a straw is a way of protecting your teeth.

"Brushing your teeth before eating acidic foods can also help because it provides a barrier between the food and the teeth".
I love coke honestly (._.;)

Yap!

I don't really eat apples in general, but I drink soda more than 4 times of most people eat apples.

It is way worse. (´Д`。)

In the U.S., Nielsen surveys show our adult population watches TV more than 4 hours a day. By that reasoning, Americans are averaging 75.5 years but should be expected to live 78.8 years.

So, is watching "Glee," "Law and Order" and "Monday Night Football" slowly killing you?

Not quite. Correlation is not causality.

It's not just politicians who adore one-sentence answers to highly complex questions. My national media experience includes one highly-attractive host who quickly laid down the interview rules: "Remember, keep it fluffy -- one sentence answers, no science." On another national TV channel, asked how both short and long sleep "caused" higher death rates, I tried to explain that people who sleep abnormally are often sick. My analogy was if 85 percent of Americans die in bed, that does not mean that beds kill people.

The Australian researchers are well aware of such confusion. In their abstract, they include the confidence interval for their data -- the standard statistically acceptable 95 percent range of possible answers.

This assumes you accept the author's modeling of the numbers, and that the data follow normal (Gaussian) distributions -- two big assumptions.

Even with those assumptions, the confidence interval of decreased lifespan varied between 8.4 days and 3.7 years for males, while the CI for females was a shorter span of 6.8 days and 3.1 years. This is rather similar to other studies performed in the U.S. at the Harvard School of Public Health, showing a 13 percent decrease in lifespan for each two hours per day spent watching TV. As the authors say, "This study is limited by the low precision with which the relationship between TV viewing time and mortality is currently known."

Folks, there's a big difference between 8.4 days and 1.8 years of "lost life." Nevertheless, different media outlets were able to state that one hour of TV watching was equivalent to two cigarettes.

But that's not correct, either.

TV or Not TV -- Is That the Question?

Not really. What matters is what TV watching represents -- primarily less physical activity.

Watching TV -- especially for many hours -- really cuts down on physical activity. People who are watching TV are generally not moving then or other times -- either walking or other exercise.

So who does watch a lot of TV? Surprisingly, use of many Internet devices is not cutting TV time among teenagers and 20-somethings, who watch TV more than they use the Internet (though they often do both).

There are surprisingly few long-term studies of how physical and mental illness affect TV watching. However, it's no surprise that my and other clinicians' experience is that sick people watch a lot television. Depressed people watch scads of TV. And those mentally exhausted "relax" with TV -- particularly people who are feeling overworked and unable to pay the bills.

However, it's not just lack of exercise that correlates with TV watching. There is now data that people who sit a lot also have higher rates of death, even when they are exercising a lot. Sitting could be hazardous to your health.

Guilt-Free TV

Is it possible to watch TV without guilt? Even if you only watch science documentaries and the Royal Shakespeare Company, you may experience remorse at lost opportunities to prevent global famine, re-engineer the warming planet or visit your ailing great aunt.

But it is possible to make TV watching an active process which can help regenerate your body.

Here are some suggestions:

1.Stand. There is no law that TV must be watched from a chair. You can stand, which depending on weight or gender, takes a quarter to 50% more calories than sitting; you can also pace if you like, which people commonly do with sports programs.

2.Watch socially. Social support is a very large factor in overall survival. If you can watch with family and friends, you'll be able to joke, cajole, discuss, and move around more easily -- as one writer describes her family very actively watching a Dallas Cowboys game.

3.Use an exercise device. It can be a simple stepper or something more elaborate like an elliptical or exercycle, but you can readily move watching TV -- and still stay in place.

4.Talk and walk. After the program is over, go and stroll with the people with whom you watched, discussing what you saw.

5.Don't eat while watching. Drink water or non-caffeinated drinks. People tend to not notice what they nosh while watching television, making it a further component of our obesity epidemic.

Bottom line: I believe that television probably won't kill you. Sitting can. Don't worry about "Glee" shortening your lifespan, if you sing and dance along.

I have told you sometime, “I don’t have TV”.

Should I be glad? (१▽१*)

Is scoliosis inherited?

Recently, some people asked me, "Is scoliosis inherited?"

Is it one of the Murphy's Law? (<- Do you remmember?)

Often one asked me a thing another one ask me same thing, and few more people follow them.

Anyway, I explain about scoliosis as Q&A style today.

Q. What is the scoliosis?
A. Scoliosis is a medical condition in which a person's spine is curved from side to side. Although it is a complex three-dimensional deformity on an X-ray, viewed from the rear, the spine of an individual with scoliosis may look more like an "S" or a "C" than straight line. (by wikipedia)

Q. Does scoliosis infect?
A. No.

Q. What is the cause of scoliosis?
A. Today, most of cases of causes are unknown.
However there are categorized as below:
Idiopathic 65%
Congenital 15%
Secondary to a neuromusculr disease 10%

I.      Malfunctional scoliosis (temporary)
Due to mal-posture, inequality of legs in length, sciatica
II.     Structural scoliosis (illness)
1.      congenital
2.      neuromuscular
3.      neurofibroma
4.      mesenchymal
5.      traumatic
6.      other causes
7.      idiopathic
infant (onset at 0~3 years old)
school-age (onset at 4~10 years old)
adolescent (onset at after 10 years old)

Q: What age does scoliosis onset mostly?
A: Most case of scoliosis are adolescent. In general, it onsets around 10 to 15 years old.

Q: Does scoliosis cause to abnormality of nervous system?
A: Yes or No.
Neuromuscular scoliosis affects to nervous system, but most cases of idiopathic scoliosis do not affect to.

Q: How are the ratio in-between men and women?
A: Number of women patients is 5 to 7 times more than men patients.

Q: Is there any method to prevent scoliosis?
A: Not found yet.

Q: Does scoliosis spontaneously recovered?
A: Only infant scoliosis has been acknowledged.

Q: Any relation to the occurrence of the scoliosis and weight of a bag or how to hold it?
A: Often people talk about that, but answer is NO.

Q: Keeping good posture prevents progression of scoliosis or heals it?
A: Keeping good posture is very important in general, but that cannot prevent progression of scoliosis.

Q: Taking enough calcium prevents scoliosis?
A: Taking calcium is very important to growth of bone and to prevent osteoporosis, but cannot prevent occurrence of scoliosis.

Q: After grown, does scoliosis still progress?
A: In general, scoliosis does not progress after grown other than neurofibroma and neuromuscular.
However the scoliosis with high degree curve may progress little by little after grown.

Q: What will be happened if a scoliosis have not taken care and became high degree?
A: High degree scoliosis induces deformation of thoracic, and then lung function will be lowered.
Eventually, lung and heart will have serious complications.

Q: Is scoliosis inherited?
A: Today, there is NO clear answer.
However, the relevancy may be found in the future.

Q: Can idiopathic scoliosis be cured by therapeutic exercise?
A: Today, no objective data has reported as, “therapeutic exercise is effective”.
Manual correction is not effective either.

Q: Will a scoliosis be high degree if it is uncared?
A: Not always.
There are so much individual differences.
In general, the scoliosis more tend to progress if it occurred in young age.

Q: Does Acupuncture work for scoliosis?
A: Yes, there are many successful case studies of scoliosis by acupuncture.
And the practices start younger make better results in general.

I collect many of information in above Q & A from Japanese material.

So some (many) translate difficulty were there (as always (१▽१*)).

X-rays of Scoliosis

I am taking a data of pectus excavatum (funnel chest) with my model patient.

It is really tough more than scoliosis.

But so far, the situation is getting better (at least better than nothing).

I hope I can report this one-day.
